An article appearing in the media this week maintains that in Auckland there are too few professionals for too many construction projects and that building code compliance and construction quality is suffering as a consequence.
As anyone who has been in NZ for the last 15-20 years will know, the NZ construction industry has a lamentable record for post-completion construction defects which have led to enormous financial claims and disputes, building code non-compliance, excessive maintenance requirements and disruption to building occupants, all of which can be substantially reduced or totally eliminated by engaging a clerk of works during construction work.
